An Autobiographical Perspective on a Remarkable but Controversial Movement

Thomas Jones has written a book that is part memoir and part history. It traces the Boston Movement from the very beginning with the Campus Evanglism group in the late 1960s until now. He says he feels a special responsibility to share his story because of his perspective from the earliest days. He doesn't in any way view this book as "the" history of the movement, but it is the history from his vantage point. It is also a history of his spiritual journey as it was contained within the larger journey.
A work like this can fill in many information gaps in people's minds and can help all of us in the Restoration heritage to move forward with lessons learned, hope rekindled and grace given and accepted.

For nearly 40 years Thomas Jones has served in various roles in a Christian movement whose beginnings he witnessed. As a campus minister, evangelist, teacher, elder and editor in what would eventually be known as the International Churches of Christ (ICOC), he was sometimes connected with pivotal events, sometimes united with and sometimes in disagreement with key leaders, and eventually in the middle of some profound changes that came to a movement that had spread from a few campuses in the United States to nearly every country in the world.

Recommendations:

"In Search of a City is a touching story, and a much needed one. Everyone in the family of the Churches of Christ or Christian Churches will benefit from the Joneses' story, although it will also resonate with outsiders to this fellowship. A fast-moving work, it is well conceived, affably shared, ably worded, and succinctly presented. The central message, unmistakable throughout the four decades it spans, lifts the spirit and enables the soul."–Douglas Jacoby, International Teaching Ministry, Athens, GA

"Tom Jones' story is a must read for those with personal struggles as a disciple. But it is more than that. It is an account of one family's responses to numerous challenges over four decades as members of the International Church of Christ."–Dr. Thomas Olbricht, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Religion, Pepperdine University
